Harrow Sports is proud to announce that Harrow Elite Team member; Professional Squash player Raneem El Welily is the 2016 Windy City Open (WCO) Champion. Making history at the 2015 Windy City Open World Series Event as the first Egyptian woman to win the title, Raneem became the defending champion late Wednesday evening in Chicago at the Professional Squash Association sanctioned tournament. In an impressive 3-1 triumph over winner of the most recent World Series event, Nour El Sherbini, Raneem came from behind to win in four games, 9-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-6. Raneem uses Harrow’s Vapor Squash Racquet.

Ranked third in the world, this victory marks a return to form for the 27-year-old. It is the first PSA World Title for Raneem since September 2015, when she was ranked No. 1 in the world.

Raneem had this to say: “I’m lost for words right now…I never thought I’d be No.1 after winning here last year so I’m just going to take it one step at a time. It’s all about baby steps and taking it one match and one point at a time. That’s the strategy. I need to work hard to make sure I have that same attitude and hunger on court for the rest of the season.”

  • Congratulations to Donna Urquhart!!

Australia’s Donna Urquhart won her first title on the women’s professional squash tour since April last year when she beat Danish number one Line Hansen in straight games to win the Crocodile Challenge Cup in Hong Kong on Sunday.

Urquhart was in total control throughout as she disposed of Hansen 11-6, 11-8, 11-6 in an impressive display.

The 25-year-old has been in great form of late, including a first ever win over fellow Australian Rachael Grinham at last month’s Australian Open.

She followed that up by reaching the quarter-finals of the Matamata Open in New Zealand the following week.

Urquhart went into the Hong Kong tournament as firm favourite and didn’t disappoint, dropping only one game on her way to her seventh career title.

She now has a week’s break before the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur, where she will play Czech Lucie Fialova in the first round.
