  • Harrow ELITE Team's Amanda Sobhy Wins 2016 U.S. Women's Nationals for Second Year in a Row

Sobhy_USWOMENSProfession Squash Player and Harrow Sports ELITE Team member Amanda Sobhy yesterday won the U.S. Women’s Nationals, defending her 2015 title and winning her third U.S. Women’s Championship. To clinch the title, Sobhy defeated fellow American Olivia Blatchford in three games, 11-4, 11-5, 11-5 in twenty-five minutes. The match was reminiscent of last year’s event; in 2015 Sobhy and Blatchford met in the finals and Sobhy similarly won in three games. This latest win adds to Sobhy’s upward momentum in the world of Professional Squash; in the past year Sobhy has risen from world No. 10 to her current position as No. 7.

“Happy to win my third US National Title today against compatriot, Olivia Blatchford. It was a great feeling to be back at the Harvard courts again competing for the prestigious US National Championship and defending my title. Thank you to US SQUASH for putting on the women's nationals this weekend and for always supporting equality and parity for the women,” said Sobhy.

Taking place at Sobhy’s Alma Mater, Harvard University, the U.S Women’s Nationals marked another step for equality and prize parity. 2016’s tournament marked the last year that the women’s trophy will be visibly smaller than the Men’s.

Amanda signed with Harrow Sports in May of 2015 after graduating & finishing her college career at Harvard. One of the most decorated players in US Squash history, Sobhy is a four time national champion and was the only player under the age of 17 to win three major Women’s Squash Association (WSA) titles. In addition to her prowess on the court, Amanda received the honor of being distinguished as Squash Magazine’s #1 Most Intriguing, Interest, and Influential People of 2015.

The Harrow Cup will be hosted by  The 4Goals Cup this  July 30th and 31st at prestigious Brown University, 235 Hope Street, Providence, RI 02912.

Since the inaugural Harrow Sports tournament in 2012, the Harrow Cup has provided a structured, annual domestic competition for post-collegiate athletes to extend their playing career.
