Egypt Claims Gold at Women’s World Team Championships

4th Overall Title Won by Egypt Women

written by #TeamHarrow & Egypt Team player Raneem El Welily

This was my 8th experience representing Egypt at the women’s world team championship. And what an experience it was!!! So so happy we managed to win the title, this was Egypt’s 4th title overall but our first consecutive win as we also won the title in 2016.
The team was thrilled with the win and I’m so proud to have represented my country next to such strong athletes.
Yes we were seeded 1 on the tournament but that’s not an indication as to who is going to win. It’s not the case in individual tournaments and it’s NEVER the case in teams events.
In teams events the pressure is different and the results are almost never expected, this year there were so many surprises too.

Egypt is currently doing so well in squash, but you have to give it to the women for stepping up their game in the past few years. I mean male champions such as Shabana, Darwish and Ashour had been at the top how many years ago? So I’m very happy that the girls are catching up.

I personally learned so much from the previous generations, the likes of Omneya Abdel Kawy (also a current #TeamHarrow member), Engy Kheirallah, Eman El Amir, Salma Shabana and Maha Zein.
This all would not have been possible without the endless efforts of Dr. Samiha Abou Elmagd (may her soul rest in peace). Her fight for Egyptian Women’s Squash has paved the way for our generation and the generations to follow.
