Greenwich, Granby Memorial and Darien win titles in Connecticut field hockey

The Connectict Interscholastic Athletic Conference field hockey tournament was so competitive in the Class L bracket this year that of the six previous state playoff games involving finalists Greenwich and Pomperaug, not a single one was decided by more than one goal. So it was only fitting that these powerhouses would play one more thriller, with Storm Kodde’s second goal of the game with 8:30 remaining proved to be the difference as Greenwich claimed the Class L title with a 2-1 victory on Nov. 21. Granby Memorial High School beat Lewis Mills 3-1 to reclaim the Class S CIAC championship after reaching the finals last year and winning it all in 2007. “I think we just peaked at the right time,” said Granby coach Sandy Wickman-Mason of the Nov. 21 victory. Read more at the Register Citizen.

CLASS M: Top-seeded Darien blanked New Canaan on Nov. 21 for its third straight CIAC Class M title. Sophie Doering scored two goals, Sam Johnston scored the other and Aimee Rich had eight saves for unbeaten Darien.
